Started the company in 2014. Picks up the phone Monday mornings. Drives a 2011 Volkswagen Passat from the original three.
We started Northbrook in a single garage with three cars. Eleven years later, we have forty-two — every one of them owned, washed, and maintained by us. We have grown, but we have not become a different kind of company. The desk still picks up on the second ring.
2014. Theo Vance starts the company out of a rented unit in the north of the city with a 2009 Honda Civic, a 2011 Volkswagen Passat, and his own ten-year-old Saab 9-3. The first booking is for the Saab. The renter sends it back a day late with an apologetic note and a bottle of red wine.
The wine becomes a habit. Most regulars who rent from Northbrook will, at some point, return the car with something for the office shelf — a postcard, a bottle, a pair of driving gloves that didn't fit them. The shelf is now almost full.
2017. The first business-class car joins the book — a five-year-old BMW 3 Series, bought at auction. Theo's brother Anders comes on as a mechanic. The fleet reaches ten cars and the company moves into a larger workshop with three bays and a proper washbay.
2021. The first premium car arrives — a 2019 Porsche Cayenne, sourced from a regular customer who was upgrading and wanted his car to go to someone who would look after it. We did. It is still in the fleet.
Today. Forty-two cars across three tiers, six people on the team, one workshop, four mechanics, and one washbay that knows every car by its registration plate. The shelf of returned gifts has spilled onto a second shelf. The Saab is still in the fleet.
The whole team in one place. If you call the studio line, one of these six picks up — usually on the first or second ring. None of them is a chatbot, and none of them is empowered to sell you something you didn't ask for.

Theo's brother. Knows every car in the fleet by sound. Lead voice on diagnostics. Will not stop talking about boxer engines if you ask.
If you have spoken to Northbrook before, it was probably to Sofia. Speaks four languages, never confused about which day your booking starts.
